Service. We are here to help and truly want to pair you with the best wine for you and your particular circumstance. If you want to just look around it is no problem. We will not accost you and make you buy a $200 bottle of wine. We know what that feels like. Our attitude is that we want you to be happy with your purchase and come back!
The owner, Daniel Braun, is a Certified Sommelier and is currently studying to hopefully take the Advanced Exam in 2016. Other staff members are committed to continuing wine education. Both of our full time employees operate on a managerial level and have completed the Introductory Course for the Court of Master Sommeliers.
Marsella Charron is taking Advanced Courses through the Guild of Sommeliers and is a Level Three through the Wine & Spirits Education Trust.
Jessie Austin has completed the Introductory Course and Exam and is currently studying to sit for the Certified Exam at the end of 2015.
It is our goal to continually have our team members work through the Courts courses and exams.
The Court of Master Sommeliers was established to encourage improved standards of beverage knowledge and service in hotels and restaurants. Education was then, and remains today, the Court’s charter. The first successful Master Sommelier examination was held in the United Kingdom in 1969. By April 1977, the Court of Master Sommeliers was established as the premier international examining body.
We specialize in allocated, small production, and boutique wines. We have a broad range of styles for the size of our store. Prices currently range from $10 to over $750 per bottle.
I often get asked how I acquire some of the brands in the store as many are generally mailing list or restaurant only wines. I am a very squeaky wheel that doesn’t stop squeaking until I get the grease. Thankfully, we have built a reputation as a destination fine wine store and have been able to get our hands on some serious gems. The logistics of stocking the shelves with limited items keeps us busy. We can’t just sit around and wait for a computer program to tell us when to reorder a particular wine. At any given time we have many wines where we were only able to buy a case or sometimes even less. That means that we are always looking at what is going to replace that limited release. The first thing I learned once getting into the retail side of things is that when a wine is amazing and inexpensive- BUY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. These are the true unicorns of the wine business. I can get you a 100 point wine if price is no object. But, if you want an everyday price wow bottle we gotta work for that and it is a continuous process.Browse fine wines
Many travelers come seeking the local wines of Hawaii. We carry grape based, honey based, and fruit based wines from Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii Island.
There are no commercial vineyards on Kauai. However, we are home to a lovely mead (honey based wine) made by a company called Nani Moon Mead. They do make some sweeter honey wines, however, they are most known for making a dry style of mead that can be a more comfortable food pairing than the syrupy sweet versions. Kauai is also home to a distillery, Koloa Rum. We tend to also carry a variety of the Koloa Rum products.
Maui is known for the Tedeschi Winery located Upcountry. We typically carry the pineapple wines- Hula O Maui Sparkling, Maui Blanc, Maui Splash. We also carry the red which is called Ulupalakua Red. We frequently also carry Pau Vodka and Ocean Vodka from Maui.
The Big Island has a winery called Volcano Winery. We typically carry their white and red wine as well as their sweet dessert honey macadamia nut wine.
